Properties of Cobaltous sulfide CAS 1317-42-6
There are two variants: (1) α-CoS: black amorphous powder. Dissolved in hydrochloric acid. Generate high cobalt hydroxysulfide [Co(OH)S] in the air. It is obtained by passing cobalt nitrate solution into hydrogen sulfide Chemicalbook; (2) β-CoS. Gray powder or red-silver-white octahedral crystal. The proportion is 5.45. Melting point 1,135°C. Soluble in acid, insoluble in water. It is obtained by heating stoichiometric cobalt powder and sulfur powder to 650°C in a vacuum quartz sealed tube.
