Tetrahydrofuran (THF CAS 109-99-9) is a colorless, water miscible organic liquid with low viscosity at room temperature and pressure. The chemical formula of this cyclic ether can be written as (CH2) 4O. Because of its long liquid range, it is a commonly used medium polar aprotic solvent. Its main use is as a precursor of high polymer. Although the smell and chemical properties of THF are very similar to ether, the anesthetic effect is poor. On October 27, 2017, the list of carcinogens published by the International Agency for Research on Cancer of the World Health Organization was preliminarily sorted out and referred to, and tetrahydrofuran was included in the list of Category 2B carcinogens.
